Timeline is pleased to have provided flyaway facilities for Whisper’s production of Sing It Loud: Black and Proud commissioned for Channel 4, in partnership with Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
After an unprecedented year of tragedy, turmoil and reflection, a series of anthems of Black pride and protest will be celebrated and performed by the hottest young Jazz musicians on Britain’s contemporary jazz scene (jazz fused with soul, R&B & rap).
Presented by Maya Jama from Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Zara McFarlane, Ashley Henry, Poppy Ajudha, Reuben James and Ayanna Witter-Johnson all take to the world-famous stage to perform their own interpretations of iconic Black protest anthems from Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye and James Brown. Multi-talented saxophonist Soweto Kinch will also deliver a rousing rendition of his recent work to complete a joyous evening of sonic history and monumental music.
This one-hour commission is part of Channel 4’s season of programmes celebrating Black lives and Black culture. Launched on 1 October, Black and Proud is a month-long curation of content ranging from bold and timely documentaries to powerful short films that show different aspects of the Black experience in modern Britain.
Sing It Loud: Black and Proud will be broadcast on 28 October at 11.10pm on Channel 4.
